It is controlled by a gland in the brain known as Pituitary gland. Women are more prone than men. They are especially likely to develop a sluggish thyroid after middle age. This disease more common in overworked women, restless. The period in older women' s life, when she more likely to be affected by this disorder is at the menopause and thereafter, or when there is any extra physical strain on the body. But nowadays its definition some change, women in any age are under this disease.

In this condition, the basal metabolism decrease below the normal.
In this condition patient tends to slow in his/her movements.
Patient is susceptible to cold, suffers from constipation and plus on weight.

Rest is must-The patient should take plenty of rest and spend a day in bed every week for first two months of the treatment. when symptoms subside, patient should on light exercise. Patient should avoid emotional stress and any type of exertion.
